Coastside News: Pigeon Point State Park triples in size with land donation

Pigeon Point Light Station State Historic Park is now three times larger after Peninsula Open Space Trust donated 132 acres to the park, an estimated $5 million gift. “This greatly helps to preserve the natural beauty and outstanding views of the San Mateo Coast,” said Chris Spohrer. “State Parks thanks POST for its long-term partnership and commitment to protecting open spaces and preserving public lands for future generations.” The donated land will primarily expand the park’s territory to the south, stretching from the coastal bluffs inland toward Highway 1 and down to Gazos Creek Road. The donation could also help close gaps in the California Coastal Trail near Pigeon Point. POST plans to raise about $14 million to build a 1.5-mile segment, working with State Parks and other agencies. Read ON.
