Coastal Watershed Council: State of the San Lorenzo River Symposium, April 11, 9 am - 1 pm
Please join us once again for the State of the San Lorenzo River Symposium. The event will kick off with opening remarks from Senator John Laird followed by talks about history, science and policy issues relevant to restoration of the watershed. We'll wrap up the event with a walking tour of the lower San Lorenzo River. Presented by SC Water Dept., San Lorenzo Valley Water District, Coastal Watershed Council and the Resource Conservation District of SC County. At the London Nelson Center. More info HERE.
Seymour Marine Discovery Center: Younger Lagoon Reserve Tours, April 11 & 16, May 7 & 9, 10:30 am - Noon
90 minute behind-the-scenes hiking tour of the Younger Lagoon Reserve led by experienced docents.
Younger Lagoon Reserve tours are offered on selected Thursdays and Saturdays of each month beginning at 10:30 AM. Younger Lagoon Reserve tours are free and open to the public. Advance reservations are highly recommended, but not required. Tours are best suited for children 10 years of age and older. Participants must be physically able to walk up and down steep inclines. Bike Santa Cruz County: Santa Cruz Cycle Fair 2026, April 11, 11 am - 3 pm
This event is designed to bring together the entire Santa Cruz County bike community in all its diversity, and will showcase the power of bikes and biking to enhance quality of life through: Art & self-expression; Sustainable Transportation; Family activity; Safe mobility; Culture & community focus & Fun! Right Livelihood UCSC: International Conference, April 13 - May 8
Around the world, Right Livelihood Laureates—recipients of the “Alternative Nobel Prize”—have demonstrated that courageous action and moral imagination can reshape societies. This spring, Laureates and educators from across the globe will gather with students, scholars, and community members to explore how education can strengthen democracy, deepen participation, and help build just futures. Homeless Garden Project: An Evening of Hope: A Film & Panel Discussion, April 15, 7 - 9 PM
Join HGP at the Del Mar Theater for an Evening of Hope, featuring a screening of the National Geographic's Jane Goodall documentary, The Hope, as well as an engaging panel discussion on aspects of hope. The film documents Dr. Goodall's time with family in Tanzania and the approaching 60th anniversary of her arrival to the chimpanzee kingdom in Gombe. Following the film, we'll hear from a broad section of community members and leaders, such as noted author Jonathan Franzen about the role of hope in their lives. Tickets ($18 donation that supports our work) are available on Eventbrite HERE, as well as at our Downtown Store (1338 Pacific Ave. - 11am - 6pm daily) where you can pick up tickets without the online Eventbrite fees.
Earth Day Tannery Arts Center, April 18, 9 am - 2 pm
Schedule: 9am-11am San Lorenzo River Clean Up, in collaboration with the City of Santa Cruz and Coastal Watershed Council. 11am-2pm - Family Activities and Up-cycle Vendor Fair: Activities include: Monterey Bay Metal Arts Guild – upcycle jewelry workshop, Printmakers of the Tannery- printmaking, Animal costume and sign. making for Animal Parade, Paint and Plant- workshop designing planters and potting plants, Upcycle vendors. 2pm - Riverwalk Animal Parade meets at Tannery and parades on Riverwalk, in animal costumes or with animal signs downtown to join City of Santa Cruz Earth Day. 10am - 2pm - Exhibit: “The Many Faces of San Lorenzo River”, a community based , multimedia, exhibit will be on display at River Studio 116

Youth For Environmental Action: YEA Summit! April 20, 9 am - 2 pm
The Summit is a day-long field trip for Santa Cruz County high school students. Led by students, for students, the event brings students and community leaders together for inspiration, sharing ideas and learning about ways to create a sustainable future. UCSC Farm: Spring Plant Sale, April 25, 10 am - 3 pm
Stock your garden with premium organic seedlings while supporting student education! Browse a huge variety of flowers, vegetables, herbs, and strawberries—all grown by UCSC Farm staff, students, and volunteers in our greenhouses. Proceeds support the Center for Agroecology’s hands-on learning programs. Please plan to park across the street from the Hay Barn in parking lot 116. We encourage you to bring a basket, wagon, or other means to carry your plants. We will have a limited number of cardboard boxes available but encourage you to bring your own. At the Hay Barn. SC Museum Of Natural History: Nature Club - Extra-curricular program for 6th-8th graders, the Nature Club, April 25, May 16
Nature Club takes young explorers (6th-8th grade) into local habitats to learn about the amazing living world around us while making discoveries along the way. On Seasonal Saturday meetups we venture into local habitats — from rocky tide pools to forested trails — to uncover the biodiversity in our own backyard. Santa Cruz Mountains Stewardship Network: Spotlight Stewardship Tours, May 8, June 5 & 12, October 9 & 30, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm
The Santa Cruz Mountains Stewardship Network is a collaboration of twenty-five organizations engaged in land stewardship in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The tours bring community leaders out on to the land to learn first-hand about the diverse and complex issues that are involved in caring for the lands of the Santa Cruz Mountains. In 2026, Spotlight Stewardship includes tours of Pescadero Watershed, Upper Pajaro River agriculture and conservation lands, commercial timberland, Big Creek Lumber sawmill, Scott Creek Resiliency Project, weelili onyenmak Preserve, and San Lorenzo River Watershed. The tours will cover forest health projects, watershed health, threatened and endangered species, commercial timber operations, fire, recreation, habitat restoration, and connectivity. Cabrillo Horticulture: Home Gardener Days Saturday Program, May 9, 9:30 - 11:30 am
The free public lectures will occur in room 5005 for 30 minutes, followed by hands-on gardening skills taught in the Horticulture Department gardens. Tools and necessary gardening materials will be provided by Cabrillo College. Our goal is to provide the public a chance to experience the beauty of our campus and learn from our fabulous instructors. We provide free, research-based gardening education and the opportunity to practice new horticulture skills. UCSC Farm: Herbs and Tending the Inner Garden, May 30, Noon - 2:30 PM
The way to care for humans and gardens have lots of similarities. We will explore the realm of self care, health maintenance and disharmony management through the lens of herbal medicine and metaphors of organic garden management.
