Earthjustice: Stopping a massive oil terminal in the Gulf of Mexico

A federal court rejected the Trump administration’s approval of a proposed oil terminal in the Gulf of Mexico. The proposed terminal, called the Texas GulfLink project, was projected to export over 2 million barrels of crude oil per day. Earthjustice and Texas Community Law Partners took the federal government to court on behalf of Better Brazoria, a local community group, after officials issued Texas GulfLink, LLC a license to build a deepwater port. The court ruled the Trump administration’s approval violated the law and struck down the company’s license. Why it matters: This oil export terminal is one of several fossil fuel export projects that the Trump administration has been trying to fast track, regardless of their legality or their impacts on communities like Brazoria County.
